Technology at the GSD

Hello all! I hope everyone had a good spring break! I was in Seattle at the ArLiS/NA + VRA Joint Conference (same as Martha), so mine was fantastic.

I mentioned the last time we met that I would post a picture of the light pad from the GSD and I am finally getting a chance to post it!

This is the way it looks not lit up. It's about the size of a small laptop and hooks up to the computer via a USB cable. I have really enjoyed using it. It makes the slides much easier to see :) This is typically what it looks like when I am using it:

This is my loop, a slide, and the light pad lit up.

My project is going really well. I wrote a process and progress report last week, and I am confident that I will soon be done with the slides from the Middle East. I am not sure what slide I will move on to after this, but I look forward to the next challenge.

As a funny side note, while I was working last week, I found this:

In case you don't know, that is a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk! Almost no computer has the ability to read these, but here one is, sitting on a cart right next to my desk with the fancy light pad on it. I found the contrast between old technology and new technology humorous :)
